Our home still has some original Art Nouveau features from stained glass to finger plates. Its a style which really appeals. Nasturtiums give us the opportunity to bring from of this style to the garden.

Nasturtium flowers have been used in many different types of art over the years, but one style that they are particularly well suited for is Art Nouveau. This decorative art style, which emerged in the late 19th century and early 20th century, is known for its organic, flowing lines and its emphasis on nature. Nasturtiums are the perfect fit for this style, with their bright, bold colours and their lush, curving petals.

In Art Nouveau, nasturtiums were often used as a decorative element in paintings, posters, and other forms of two-dimensional art. They were often depicted in a stylised way, with exaggerated petals and leaves that flowed in a way that was meant to evoke the beauty of nature. In many Art Nouveau paintings, the nasturtiums are the main focus, with the rest of the image serving as a backdrop for their vibrant colours and intricate forms.

In addition to their use in two-dimensional art, nasturtiums were also a popular subject in Art Nouveau sculpture. Many sculptors of this era were inspired by the beauty of nature, and they incorporated nasturtiums into their work in a variety of ways. Some created delicate, abstract sculptures that focused on the intricate details of the flowers, while others created more representational pieces that showed the flowers in full bloom.

One of the most famous examples of nasturtiums in Art Nouveau is the design of the famous Paris metro station, the "Abbesses". This station is a beautiful example of how nasturtiums can be incorporated into decorative art in a subtle and sophisticated way. The intricate ironwork on the station's entrance is adorned with delicate nasturtiums that curve and flow in a way that is both graceful and eye-catching.

Nasturtiums were also a popular subject in Art Nouveau architecture, particularly in the form of stained glass windows. The bright, bold colours of the nasturtiums were a perfect fit for stained glass, and they provided a striking contrast to the muted colours of the leaded glass. Many Art Nouveau buildings, including houses and public buildings, featured stained glass windows that depicted nasturtiums in a variety of ways, from delicate, abstract designs to more representational depictions of the flowers in full bloom.

In conclusion, nasturtiums and Art Nouveau are a match made in heaven. These bold and beautiful flowers are the perfect fit for this decorative art style, with their bright colours, intricate forms, and emphasis on nature. Whether depicted in paintings, sculptures, stained glass windows, or other forms of art, nasturtiums continue to be a popular subject for Art Nouveau artists and art lovers alike. So the next time you're out and about, take a look for nasturtiums in Art Nouveau designs, you'll be amazed at how well they fit!
